History
Mashinani Watch Organisation was registered in 2019 under Section 10 of the Non- Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act. Before registration, Mashinani Watch operated as a Community Based Organisation (CBO) in Mombasa County but later traversed to other Counties in the Kenya Coast Region in 2019, making it to be registered as an NGO due to wide coverage. Moffat Mutero, an experienced broadcast journalist is the Founder and also the Chief Executive Officer of the organization. Mashinani Watch Organisation carries out various community programmes in the entire Coast Region. These programmes are:
Youth & Women empowerment. -Peace and Security. -Drug & Substance Abuse -Education. -Gender Based Violence (GBV). -Environmental Conservation.
The organisation's slogan is, Inform...Educate...Transform.. For a community to have a productive generation, information and education are key elements of transformation where every gender can enjoy fundamental rights as enshrined in the constitution and other international human rights instruments. Our organisation spearheads values of integrity, responsibility, equity, responsiveness , inclusiveness, transparency and accountability in the implementation of social-economical programs amongst all communities in the Coast Region and Kenya at large. Mashinani Watch Organization offices are located in Mombasa County , Bamburi - Kiembeni Mwisho Opposite Blue Estate.
Access to Information Act 2016, Part II, Section 4 provides that every citizen has the right of access to information held by—(a)the State; and(b)another person and where that information is required for the exercise or protection of any right or fundamental freedom. The County Government of Mombasa has confirmed that, all media houses will have an easy access to information from all departments. This will enhance factual reporting/representation of correct information to the residents of Mombasa and beyond.
